“It’s just been a lot of anger, sadness and empty numbness too,” Johnny’s brother Grant tells ‘Today’ of how he’s feeling following the actor’s death

Johnny Wactor’s loved ones are calling for justice following the General Hospital actor’s death.

While speaking in an interview aired on Thursday, June 13’s episode of Today, Johnny’s brother Grant Wactor insisted the killers “will be caught” after the actor was shot dead at age 37 in Downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of May 25.

PEOPLE previously reported that Johnny had been killed after coming upon three armed car thieves who were attempting to steal his catalytic converter from his vehicle. He’d just finished up his shift at Level 8 and was walking to his car with co-worker Anita Joy, who was by his side when he died.

“They will be caught. They will be found. They will be tried. We’re going to be here for that,” Grant said of the killers on Today.

He added of how he’s feeling, “It just doesn’t feel real yet. For me personally, it’s just been a lot of anger, sadness and empty numbness too.”

Security guard Bryan Barkley, who also worked at the club, seemingly called 911 and tried to perform CPR on the actor after seeing what happened.

“I gave him a hug and I told him thank you for just being there for him,” Grant said of Barkley on Today.

No arrests have been made related to the crime as of yet. On Wednesday, June 12, Johnny’s friends and family led a Justice for Johnny Wactor march, calling for justice and city leaders to increase public safety.

“I don’t know what the answer is, but someone has to create one and find the right one soon. We don’t want another grieving mother. Obviously, I don’t want more grieving brothers. There shouldn’t have to be marches for stuff like this,” Grant insisted.

While speaking at a news conference, Grant said, “Back home, we’re all hurting obviously. We’re doing everything we can to try to stay busy to try and keep this in the forefront, so thank you all for being here and helping us keep this out there so we can continue to press this issue.”

“The main thing is just, it was [a] senseless act of violence. It was something that none of us expected. He was 37 years old. He would be 38 in August, and it hurts,” he added in footage shared from the conference by NBCLA.

PEOPLE reported on May 29 that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner had determined that Wactor died from a gunshot wound to the chest. His cause of death is listed as a homicide.

Wactor, who was best known for his General Hospital role as Brando Corbin, also appeared in Army Wives, NCIS, The OA, Westworld, The Passenger, Station 19, Barbee Rehab, Siberia, Agent X, Vantastic, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Girl, Training Day, Criminal Minds and more.

A GoFundMe page set up to help his family with funeral and travel expenses has now reached over $133,000 in donations.
